Service In The Community

Angel Tree: The Angel Tree ministry provides Christmas gifts to children who might not otherwise experience the joy of Christmas morning. Gifts from children’s wish lists are hung on a Christmas tree in the Parish House for parishioners to choose and purchase. Gifts are collected at Holy Trinity and distributed through partner organizations.

CAN DO Sundays: The third Sunday of every month is CAN DO Sunday, when parishioners bring needed grocery items to church to be distributed by One Step Further to the Community Support and Nutrition Program. We also work with One Step Further to distribute Thanksgiving meals. More information on that program is available every year in early November.

Casserole Ministry: Holy Trinity has partnered with Church of the Holy Spirit, an Episcopal mission on Yanceyville Street, to provide meals for neighbors in need on the third Tuesday of the month. To volunteer, please contact Robin Farber at robinfarber339@gmail.com.

Hot Dish & Hope: Hot Dish & Hope offers a free meal and a measure of hope to more than 200 people each Tuesday and Thursday evening in the Mullin Life Center at First Presbyterian Church. Volunteers help plate meals and assist guests. Sign up at fpcgreensboro.org/outreach/hunger/. We also participate in a Hot Dish & Hope toiletry drive twice a year. Details will be available in the weekly ePistle newsletter.

Housing Ministry:

  • Hands-On: Holy Trinity partners with Community Housing Solutions on projects throughout the year to make our neighbor’s homes warmer, drier, and safer. Projects include exterior painting and interior repairs to walls, floors, kitchen, and bathroom, and outside debris removal. Through this ministry, we assist our neighbors in preserving their home value, building wealth for future generations, and we get to know our neighbors.
  • Advocacy: The Housing Working Group works with local faith communities and nonprofit agencies to advocate for maintaining and constructing affordable housing in Greensboro. Being the voice of Christ in our community, we advocate with the government, agencies, and developers on behalf of our neighbor’s housing requirements. We recognize the immediate need for temporary and permanent housing. Our primary focuses are on families with infants and school-age children so that they go to school with a good night’s sleep, ready to learn, and on the elderly so that they may age gracefully within their own homes.

Meals on Wheels: Hundreds of local seniors are homebound and struggle to get healthy meals and maintain human connection. On the third Monday of the month, Holy Trinity covers 10 routes for delivery of prepared meals and to lovingly connect with local seniors. Meals are picked up at 9 a.m. and deliveries take about two hours. If you’d like to help, contact parishioners C. P. Eldred at c.p.eldred46@gmail.com or Russ Dunn at mrdunn17@gmail.com

School Supply Drive: Every fall we hold a collection for school supplies to benefit a local school. Details will be in the weekly ePistle newsletter.

Service In The Church

Acolytes: All youth in 5th-12th grade are invited to become acolytes. Please let Annie Slaughter, Liturgical Coordinator, know if you would like to join the acolyte program. There is a required training session for acolytes every fall. Contact Annie Slaughter, Liturgical Coordinator, annie@holy-trinity.com; 336-272-6149 ext. 239.

Altar Guild provides an opportunity to learn more about the rich traditions of our Episcopal heritage. The Altar Guild makes the church and Chapel ready for worship by putting out liturgical items, linens, and special hangings as the season requires. The time commitment is about three hours per month on Saturday mornings and before or after one of the Sunday services with occasional time during the week for special services. Contact Annie Slaughter, Liturgical Coordinator, annie@holy-trinity.com; 336-272-6149 ext. 239.

Chalicists: Chalice Bearers, also known as Chalicists, are men and women of the parish who assist the priests by serving the chalice of wine at communion. They vest in cassock and surplice and sit in the sanctuary during the service. Chalice Bearers require appointment by the Rector and licensing by the Bishop for a two-year term. They serve once or twice a month. Contact Annie Slaughter, Liturgical Coordinator, annie@holy-trinity.com; 336-272-6149 ext. 239.

Choir: The Adult Choir features both professional and volunteer singers and welcomes all interested adults and teens who have strong musical skills. The choir provides musical leadership at the 9 and 11:15 a.m. services. Rehearsals are 10:15 – 11 a.m. in the choir room on Sundays. Contact Dr. Ben Brafford at ben-htms@triad.rr.com.

Condolence Note Writers: This faithful group of volunteers writes notes to those who are bereaved. If you’d like to be a part of this or would like more information, please reach out to Libby Haile at hailemartin@aol.com.

Greens Guild: The Holy Trinity Greens Guild beautifies the church with fresh green arrangements, gathered from nature, for the altars and the Baptistry. We are organized into teams and work in two-week shifts throughout the year with training provided for new members. Contact Peggy Follin at pfollin@triad.rr.com or Ann Vaughn at alv11950@bellsouth.net.

Lay Readers: Lectors come forward from the congregation during worship and read scripture lessons at the lectern. Intercessors read the Prayers of the People. Lay Readers serve at the Sunday morning services and other services throughout the church year. Contact Annie Slaughter, Liturgical Coordinator, annie@holy-trinity.com; 336-272-6149 ext. 239.

Ushers: “Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.” Romans 15:7 Ushers are often the first face someone sees when arriving at church, so this ministry is vital to welcoming people to Holy Trinity. Contact Annie Slaughter, Liturgical Coordinator, annie@holy-trinity.com; 336-272-6149 ext. 239.

Wedding Guild: The Wedding Guild works with the clergy and engaged couples to choreograph wedding ceremonies and ensure they unfold in a smooth and beautiful way. Contact Annie Slaughter, Liturgical Coordinator, annie@holy-trinity.com; 336-272-6149 ext. 239.
